English 11: Moments That Shaped My Life

I had a falling out with my friend group, which left me sad and alone for a while forcing me to think about how I was acting in class.
Looking back, I realized my situation wouldn’t change unless I made the effort myself, so I started talking more and spending time with
people in my math class. Being more extroverted lead me to a great group of friends I wouldn’t have had otherwise. This experience
taught me that waiting for things to change keeps me stuck, while taking initiative creates new opportunities. I can apply what I
learned in the future when my current friends graduate, using the same approach to make new friends instead of isolating myself.

In 9th grade, no one believed in my ability to consistently show up to school and get good grades. Looking back, that doubt pushed me to go to
school even when I didn't want to and prove my previous actions don't define what I'm capable of. By pushing past those perceptions, I attend
high school regularly and earn a 4.0 GPA. This experience taught me that growth comes from doing what feels uncomfortable, not avoiding it.
In the future, applying that same mindset will allow me to keep pushing myself in difficult situations becoming a stronger, more capable person.

I have had many Japanese exchange students live in my house, exposing me to different cultures, languages, and perspectives. Reflecting on my past,
that environment shaped how I understand people and helped me to not make quick judgments. Being around such diversity made it easier for me to
accept others and focus on who they are rather than appearance. This experience taught me that openness leads to stronger, more genuine connections
with people. I now apply that mindset by judging others based on their actions, and I will continue using it to stay approachable and build meaningful
relationships in the future.

At the beginning of the year, I had no friends in my math class since I was a year younger, which made it easy to feel out of place. Looking back,
that situation showed me that staying quiet would have kept me isolated, so I made the effort to talk more to the people around me. By doing that,
I was able not only to connect with my peers but also to build lasting friendships. This experience taught me that communication is the key factor
in turning unfamiliar environments into comfortable ones. In the future, when I am placed in a new or unfamiliar class, I can rely on what I've
learned to confidently reach out and form connections with the people around me.

When I was in grade 10, I decided to take Math 11 over the summer, which required me to manage my time independently and stay focused without a strict
routine. Looking back, dedicating my personal time to studying, homework, and tests forced me to develop discipline and take responsibility for my own
progress. That experience pushed me to become more consistent and less reliant on external pressure to get work done. I learned that avoiding
distractions and setting priorities directly impacts the results I achieve. I now apply those habits by staying focused on my work at home, and I can
carry this discipline into future challenges that require independent effort.

Spending lunches in math class studying for the Fermat math contest was a clear example of commitment. Looking back, that level of dedication showed me how
sustained effort builds both skill and discipline. Fully committing to that goal increased my grit and carried over into other challenges, such as preparing
for the AP exam in May. The result of me scoring 93 points, which is above average, proved that consistent effort leads to positive outcomes. I now apply
that same level of commitment to other areas, knowing that discipline and focus directly determine the results I achieve.

Having long, greasy hair made it harder for me to connect with others and affected how I felt about myself. Looking back, recognizing that I was unhappy in that
situation pushed me to make a change instead of staying stuck. Cutting my hair gave me a noticeable boost in confidence, helped me build more friendships, and
improved my overall mood. That experience showed me that small, deliberate changes can have a significant impact on both how I feel and how others respond to me.
I now apply that ability to make decisive changes in other areas of my life, knowing it can improve my situation in meaningful ways.
